Use keyboard shortcut to turn on StickyKeys

Windows XP provides users with flexibility to activate StickyKeys feature through Control Panel > Accessibility Options or via a keyboard shortcut. However, users are required to turn on the Use Shortcut option. Once the shortcut option is turned on, press the Shift key five times to turn on StickyKeys.

To turn on StickyKeys using keyboard shortcut, do the following:

1. Click on the Start button and select Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears.
2. In Control Panel, ensure that Classic view is selected. (All Control Panel icons are visible.) To switch to Classic view, click on Switch to Classic View from the left pane of the Control panel window.
3. Double-click the Accessibility Options icon. The Accessibility Options dialog box appears.
4. On the Keyboard tab, in the StickyKeys section, click on the Settings button. The Settings for StickyKeys dialog box appears.
5. Under the Keyboard shortcut section, select Use shortcut check box.

6. Click on the OK button to close the Settings for StickyKeys dialog box.
7. Click on the Apply button and then click on the OK button to close the Accessibility Options dialog box.
8. Close the Control Panel window.

Try It Yourself

1. Press the Shift key five times to activate the StickyKeys feature.
2. When the Shift key is pressed for five times, the StickyKeys dialog box appears.

3. In the StickyKeys dialog box:
   1. Click on the OK button, to activate StickyKeys.
   2. Click on the Cancel button to close the StickyKeys dialog box.
   3. Click on the Settings button to adjust the StickyKeys settings via the Accessibility Options dialog box.
