Use keyboard shortcut to turn on FilterKeys
Windows XP provides users with flexibility to activate FilterKeys feature through Control Panel > Accessibility Options or via a keyboard shortcut. However, users are required to turn on the Use Shortcut option. Once the shortcut option is turned on, hold down the right Shift key for eight seconds to turn on FilterKeys.
To turn on FilterKeys using keyboard shortcut, do the following:
- Click on the Start button and select Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears.
- In Control Panel, ensure that Classic view is selected. (All Control Panel icons are visible.) To switch to Classic view, click on Switch to Classic View from the left pane of the Control panel window.
- Double-click the Accessibility Options icon. The Accessibility Options dialog box appears.
- On the Keyboard tab, in the FilterKeys section, click on the Settings button. The Settings for FilterKeys dialog box appears.
- Under the Keyboard shortcut section, select Use shortcut check box.
- Click on the OK button to close the Settings for FilterKeys dialog box.
- Click on the Apply button and then click on the OK button to close the Accessibility Options dialog box.
- Close the Control Panel Window.
Try It Yourself
- Hold down the Right Shift key for eight seconds to activate the FilterKeys feature.
- When the Right Shift key is held down for eight seconds, the FilterKeys dialog box appears.
- In the FilterKeys dialog box:
- Click on the OK button, to activate FilterKeys.
- Click on the Cancel button to close the FilterKeys dialog box.
- Click on the Settings button to adjust the FilterKeys settings via the Accessibility Options dialog box.
