Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint is a powerful tool for creating presentations. Presentations are often used by people as an aid to provide information in seminars and conferences. Presentations can include a combination of text, image, embedded video formats. For example, in this era of distance learning teachers can provide online access of presentation notes to students. Presentation slides can be distributed in different formats such as PowerPoint or published in format such as a PDF. Students can reproduce the slides to refer to the online notes.

Like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint slide contents can be made accessible. There are steps to make slide content accessible:

  • Standard slide layouts: It is advisable to use the standard slide layouts to make content recognized by assistive technologies such as screen readers. Using standard slides having textbox and image placeholders will help assistive technologies identify content to users.

  • Text alternatives: Like text equivalents for images in Word document, authors can provide text equivalents to image placed in PowerPoint slides.

  • Standard styles: Similar to using default layout templates, it is advisable to use standard styles for presenting lists, tables etc. Styles can be formatted as required using Configure options.

In addition to these, there are third party software which can be used to publish the slides in other accessible formats such as HTML. View the Accessible Microsoft PowerPoint presentations to create and publish accessible presentations.
