Make sound when modifier key is pressed
Windows provides notification about StickyKeys status on screen in visual as well as audio format. Audio notification about StickyKeys status is helpful for users with visual disabilities who might find it difficult to locate the small StickyKeys icon on the system tray. One needs to select the Make sounds when modifier key is pressed option to get audio alert when a modifier key is pressed.
To select the Make sounds when modifier key is pressed option, do the following:
- Click on the Start button and select Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears.
- In Control panel, ensure that Classic view is selected. (All Control Panel icons are visible.) To switch to Classic view, click on Switch to Classic View from the left pane of the Control panel window.
- Double-click the Accessibility Options icon. The Accessibility Options dialog box appears.
- On the Keyboard tab, in the StickyKeys section, click on the Settings button. The Settings for StickyKeys dialog box appears.
- Under the notification section, select the Make sounds when modifier key is pressed option.
- Click on the OK button to close the Settings for StickyKeys dialog box.
- Click on the Apply button and then click on the OK button to close the Accessibility Options dialog box.
- Close the Control panel window.
Try It Yourself
To find out how this works, let’s perform a small exercise:
- Turn on StickyKeys using the shortcut key or via the Control panel > Accessibility options dialog box.
- Press the Windows logo key first and then press the 'R' key to activate the Run dialog box.
Did you hear a sound, when the Windows logo key was pressed? This sound will inform users with visual disabilities about the StickyKeys status being turned on.
Note: The Make sounds when modifier key is pressed option will inform the computer to make a sound whenever a modifier key is pressed.
