Unintentionally pressing a key
Ever found yourself in a situation, whereby you unintentionally press the same key multiple times in quick succession?
What happens when you press down a key for longer duration resulting in the character being typed for multiple times?
Yes! Each one of us gets frustrated when we land up in any of the above mentioned situations. We'll correct our mistakes by erasing the unwanted text that we had typed or press the keys slowly next time.
Since it is a rare phenomenon for us, it is easier to correct our mistakes and move ahead but wouldn't it be annoying if it happens frequently?
People who find it difficult to control their hand movements often land up in such a situation and feel that some how they can stop this from happening. Users with mobility disabilities, such as paralysis, tremors etc very often lend up pressing a key repetitively or have a tendency to holding down a key for longer duration. For users with mobility disabilities it becomes very tiring to erase the unwanted text each time they unintentionally press a key or hold down a key for longer duration. In addition to users with mobility disabilities, senior citizens also find themselves in such a situation many a times.
Windows XP includes a feature called FilterKeys which enable users to set the computer to ignore repeated keystrokes or set the time limit for ignoring repeated keystrokes. In addition, FilterKeys provides users with an option to set the time for which a key needs to be pressed before it is being accepted by the computer. Thus, users with mobility disabilities can set up the computer to ignore repeated key presses and key acceptance time limits and carry out their work.
